Florence Broadhurst, A Legend Reimagined

Welcome Back Blog Readers,

I hope you are all enjoying the last few days of summer! Over the course of the season, The Four Walls has enjoyed an influx of new and exclusive wallpaper books into the store. Recently, we welcomed a particularly exciting collection highlighting the work of the couturier, artist, and designer Florence Broadhurst.

In 1959, she established Australian (Hand Printed) Wallpapers; which later became known as Florence Broadhurst Wallpapers, "the only studio of its kind in the world." Her studio was the first to print on metallic surfaces, develop a washable, vinyl-coating finish, and create a drying rack system that allowed for her studio to create unprecedented amounts of wallcovering in a single dye lot. By the mid-70's she monopolized the high-quality end of the Australian wallcovering market and was exporting her more than 800 designs world wide.

Her designs are boldly geometric, elegant, and full of Broadhurt's dynamic artistic expression. Her bold and varying color choices also give her designs a flair that is sure to make a statement in your home. York Wallcoverings has recently released an exclusive collection of Broadhurst's designs. Though machine printed, they retain the unique texture and feel of Broadhurst's joyful, yet sophisticated designs.
